I started crying the moment Yuzu limped out on his crutches to receive his gold medal at the Rostelecom Cup victory ceremony. I was deeply touched and heartbroken.

For me, these moments symbolize courage, determination, perseverance and, most of all, love. It’s about Yuzu’s love for figure skating, music, art and his fans. It’s about his desire to be the best he can be. My admiration for him grows every day. Kudos to this wonderful young man!

It’s even more amazing that despite his injury and pain, he still smiled and thanked his supporters and gave back the love. Thank you for everything, dear Yuzuru! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

(…) “Hanyu, who had a healthy lead after Friday’s short program, nailed his first two quads but fell on a quad salchow late in his program to “Origin” and also had a quad toeloop downgraded to a double.

“It really stings,” Hanyu said of his mistakes on his jumps.

“I was just about able to win on points but I was in no way able to perform my program as well as I wanted to. From my heart I really want to become stronger.”

Hanyu reflects on bumpy start to 2018-2019 season

(…) “The two-time Olympic champion didn’t blame the new figure skating rule that shortened the long program by 30 seconds for his second-place finish in the men’s free skate, where he skated to “Origin” and fell face-forward on a quad salchow attempt.

“As far as my points go, it’s disappointing. I feel like I could’ve been better in many areas,” said Hanyu, whose total score was 263.65 – compared to his personal best 330.43.

“It wasn’t the four minutes (compared to four and a half minutes last season) that made it tough. I just felt like I lacked the skills. I have to build a body that can withstand the composition of the program,” he said.

(…)  “I’m not particularly thinking about that (defending the title at the 2022 Winter Games). I learned at this competition that it can be very frustrating when you can’t perform well. I had this heartfelt urge to become stronger.” (…)

“I guess I’d be a cat. I’m a selfish creature, I work at my own pace and I do what I want. I know I have to grow up,” he said.(…)
